Tim
My father-in-law Tim is attempting to get into Hollywood. He recently retired from the LA County Sheriff's Department after 33 years. He wanted some headshots done and asked me to do them for him. I think they turned out pretty good.

1 Figure #2
Here is another one of the figures being recycled. This time he is all alone.

1 Figure
I mixed some cold wax medium in some of the areas on this piece. Some of the areas have a really interesting matte surface. There is actually another figure in the lower right, that is buried under about 5 layers of paint. You can kind of make it out, but I'm thinking of bringing it back out a little. Who knows?

2 Figures
One of the things I like best about painting, is the process. The process of building up paint and the textures that come over time. I try to combine abstract textures and surfaces with more realistic imagery. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes unexpected things happen, like that ghost figure in the front. That came about from a decision half way through the piece. I like how it turned out.

I saw a book showing the work of the artist Jim Dine. He would use the same images over and over again in different compositions, in what seemed like endless ways. This impressed me and I began to do similar things. I would go and sketch people in random places and then use them in multiple pieces. The 2 background figures are also the figures in one of the work-in-progress paintings below. I really like working this way.

Trees on paper
Here is another finished piece. I was actually trying to see how oil paint reacts to paper. I kind of like the feel of it, except for the fact that paper is very absorbant. I used Rives BFK, which I fell in love with in school. I found it great to for drawing (graphite, charcoal, pastel, whatever) and printmaking. I guess I'll add painting to that list.

Trees
Here is one that is actually done. It is hard to see in the picture, but the background has a rough, matte texture to it, achieved through mixing in cold wax to the paint. I treally like the effect, but I still need to try and develop it further

Red treed WIP
Here is the 1st version of the this WIP. I still have a lot of things gonna happen to it, including adding some more smaller and intermediate branches, pushing the green deeper and more towards black in some areas, adding more cool tones to the trees and continuing the warm cool relationships overal.

Work in Progress
Ok, here is a work in progress that has been sitting around for a while. I'm not sure what to do with it from here. I'm actually half tempted to just let it go, but I'm really not happy with that option. I kind of like the unfinished quality about it, but it still feels too much like an underpainting at this point. That is why it has been sitting around for such a long time.

Inaugural Post
OK, so this is the beginning of my personal blog, which sometimes turn into a glob. My wife keeps a blog for our family and everyone once a while I'll throw something on there. This will more of my own beast. As an artist, I am sometimes into some weird stuff, and lets just say things that aren't as digestible for most. This will be for the strange, thought provoking (hopefully) interesting things that exist in everyday life and culture. I am going to try and post a lot of my art and any art that I come across.
